Application of large-diameter slurry butterfly valves in wet flue gas desulfurization systems

ZZJG VALVE - 2026-07-24

The slurry butterfly valve is an important industrial valve specially designed for slurry delivery systems, suitable for media containing solid particles or suspended solids, and is widely used in wet desulfurization systems in industries such as power, chemical, steel, and metallurgy.

Slurry butterfly valves are especially common in wet flue gas desulfurization units in thermal power plants, used to control and regulate the flow of limestone slurry and gypsum slurry. It is well known that burning fossil fuels emits large amounts of sulfur- and nitrogen-containing oxides, which are among the main sources of air pollution and pose significant risks to the environment and human health. Therefore, to reduce the emission of these harmful gases, related enterprises including thermal power plants, steel mills, cement plants, coking plants, petrochemical enterprises, and glass kilns need to carry out flue gas desulfurization and denitrification to control pollutant emissions and minimize environmental impact.

Currently, the internationally mature desulfurization methods mainly fall into three categories: wet, semi-dry, and dry. Among them, the limestone-gypsum process is the most widely used, especially in thermal power plants in the United States, Germany, and Japan, where about 90% of flue gas desulfurization units use this process. The desulfurization efficiency of this process is usually greater than 95%, and it is widely used in China. In such desulfurization systems, slurry butterfly valves play an important role, mainly reflected in their customizable materials, adjustable flow interception, corrosion resistance, and automatic control. These features make the slurry butterfly valve an indispensable and important component in wet desulfurization systems.

In wet flue gas desulfurization systems, large-diameter slurry butterfly valves are typically used in critical locations to ensure normal system operation and efficient desulfurization. Common locations include: a. Slurry inlet and outlet of the absorption tower: The absorption tower is the core part of the flue gas desulfurization system. The large-diameter slurry butterfly valve controls the inflow and outflow of slurry, ensuring uniform distribution and effective desulfurization in the absorption tower. b. Slurry circulation pipeline: slurry is continuously circulated through the circulation pipeline. The large-diameter slurry butterfly valve is installed at the pump inlet and on the slurry circulation pipeline to control the flow of the circulation pipeline.

Features of large-diameter slurry butterfly valves: a. Excellent corrosion and wear resistance: Amos large-diameter slurry butterfly valves have excellent corrosion resistance and good wear resistance, enabling long-term stable operation in harsh environments with corrosive properties and solid particles and impurities. b. Good sealing performance: Uses reliable sealing structures and high-performance sealing materials to ensure zero leakage under various working conditions. c. Good flow regulation performance: stable flow characteristics and adjustment range, allowing precise control of slurry flow according to system requirements. d. Compact structure and easy maintenance: Adopts a more rational structural design, making installation, disassembly, and maintenance easier and faster, reducing system maintenance costs and downtime. e. Strong adaptability: Can adapt to different media, temperature, pressure, and other conditions to maintain stable performance.

Based on these characteristics, large-diameter slurry butterfly valves can operate stably and long-term in wet flue gas desulfurization systems, providing reliable assurance for safe and efficient system operation.
