World Water Day 2026: Water for All, Action for Equality

ZZJG VALVE - 2026-03-21

March 22, 2026, will mark the 34th World Water Day. During the event, the UN World Water Development Report 2026, titled “Water for all people: Equal rights and opportunities,” will be officially launched. The report highlights key data and practical solutions to advance gender equality across the water sector.

World Water Day 2026: Water for All, Action for Equality

1.Redefining Gender Roles in Water

On the 34th World Water Day, the United Nations, under the theme "Water and Gender," revealed a stark reality: women and girls bear a heavier burden in the global water crisis yet lack a voice in water resource governance. As a UNESCO report states, women and girls spend a combined 250 million hours fetching water every day. This is an unequal phenomenon.

Fortunately, across continents, many water infrastructure companies are changing this landscape, particularly valve manufacturers. They are empowering women as decision-makers, entrepreneurs, and guardians of water security. In a Zambian community, a water supply system integrating precision control valves has transformed how people access water and changed gender roles. Previously, women spent at least 55 minutes fetching water daily; now it takes only 5 minutes. More importantly, the system's smart valves adjust water usage patterns: prioritizing household water for women in the morning, and allocating irrigation and livestock water in the afternoon based on men's agricultural needs. This significantly improves community efficiency and development.

Beyond community impacts, gender-inclusive valve technology is also improving global water resource governance. International standards are constantly evolving, prioritizing the needs of women: the latest revision of ISO 5208 includes gender-sensitive design standards for water valves, such as ergonomic handles, facilitating use by users of all fitness levels.

2.Wastewater to Resources

A recent report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) shows that approximately 42% of global domestic wastewater is not properly treated, posing a serious threat to the ecological environment and human health. At the same time, we must also recognize the enormous energy potential of wastewater, which can be converted into at least five times the amount of biogas, heat, and electricity, generating enough electricity annually to meet the electricity needs of nearly 500 million people. A significant portion of the products developed, produced, and sold by ZZJG can treat wastewater, effectively handling various media within it. This not only efficiently treats wastewater but also recovers energy.

A smart, low-carbon wastewater treatment plant in Wuhan has a total capacity of approximately 300,000 tons per day, adhering to the highest national standard (Class A) for urban wastewater treatment, and simultaneously constructing a greywater reuse and photovoltaic low-carbon system. ZZJG supplied 350 key water valves of various types (including butterfly valves, gate valves, sludge knife gate valves, flow regulating and pressure regulating valves, and shut-off valves) for this project, accounting for over 90% of the total valves in the plant area, covering the entire process from influent, biological treatment, sedimentation, deep treatment, to effluent discharge. Leveraging our advantages in corrosion resistance, anti-clogging, low leakage, and intelligent regulation, we ensured the long-term stable and efficient operation of the system, contributing to the improvement of regional water environment quality and efficiency, and the construction of green and low-carbon water systems.

3.Empowering Women, Securing Water

ZZJG is deeply rooted in the vlve manufacturing and water conservancy infrastructure fields, actively responding to the 2026 World Water Day global initiative on "Water and Gender." In the past year, the ZZJG Group, through adjusting its business unit structure, has absorbed female talent and cultivated female strength across the entire chain of its five major businesses: R&D innovation, lean production, global sales, engineering services, and corporate management. Enterprises empower core intelligent manufacturing with flexible strengths and safeguard the sustainable development of water resources with gender equality. They not only protect the global water environment with high-performance water-saving valves, but also fulfill their social responsibilities with talent inclusion, making women's power a warm and solid backbone in the cause of water security.
