DN3000 Hydraulic Control butterfly Valve of Brazil’s Hydropower Station

ZZJG VALVE - 2025-09-10

Forge heavy equipment!

The "steel giant lung" of Brazil's hydropower station has successfully passed the ultimate test.

Good news! A major piece of good news has come from a hydropower station in Brazil: The core safety equipment of the power station - the DN3000 giant hydraulic control butterfly valve produced by ZZJG VALVE has successfully completed the 72-hour continuous trial operation and overload test, and both key acceptance tests have been successful! This marks that this "major national equipment" has officially met the conditions for commercial operation, laying a solid foundation for the long-term stability and safety of the power station.

Giant: What is a DN3000 Hydraulic Control butterfly Valve?

If you have no concept of "DN3000", we can make an intuitive analogy: Its diameter reaches 3 meters, which is large enough for an ordinary car to pass through it without any pressure. It is a key control and safety device installed at the end of the pressure pipeline in a hydropower station, like an incredibly powerful "steel giant lung", controlling the "breathing" and "heartbeat" of the entire unit.

The ultimate test: 72-hour trial operation and overload. The two tests that were successfully passed this time can be regarded as the "hellish" ultimate assessment of the performance of this butterfly valve.

1. 72-hour continuous trial operation: This is not simply "just start running". The valve needs to operate stably without interruption for a full three days under the extreme working conditions of the maximum working water volume and rated flow. This places extremely strict requirements on the structural strength of the valve, the stability of the bearings, the reliability of the driving hydraulic system, and the zero leakage of the sealing system. The slightest vibration or leakage may lead to the failure of the test. The successful passing proves that its manufacturing accuracy and long-term operational reliability fully meet the design standards.

2. Overload test This is the most breathtaking moment. The test personnel simulated a sudden power grid failure, instantly disconnecting the units that were operating at full capacity from the power grid. The huge amount of energy has nowhere to be released, and a destructive pressure surge (water hammer effect) will occur throughout the entire pressure pipeline system. At this moment, the "slow closing" function of the hydraulic butterfly valve is instantly activated - it first quickly closes to a certain Angle to cut off most of the water flow, and then slowly closes until it is completely sealed, thereby ingeniously counteracting and absorbing the water hammer pressure wave, turning the astonishing impact into imperceptible. The successful test has eloquently proved that it is truly the "guardian of power stations", and its hydraulic control system and logical design have reached the world's advanced level.

The successful acceptance of the DN3000 hydraulic control butterfly valve at the Brazilian hydropower station is not only a victory for a project, but also another demonstration of ZZJG VALVE's major equipment manufacturing capabilities and core hydropower technologies.
