How to Troubleshoot Wafer Electric Butterfly Valve

As a leading global butterfly valves manufacturer, ZZJG Valve has received inquiries from many customers regarding wafer electric butterfly valve maintenance. Based on the explanations and documentation provided by ZZJG Valve engineers, the following information has been compiled.

If the usage conditions and performance specifications of the valve are not carefully verified prior to installing wafer-type electric butterfly valve, the valve may experience the following common issues: inability to reverse direction or slow reversal, gas leakage, or malfunction of the electromagnetic pilot valve.

(1) If the wafer-type electric butterfly valve cannot switch directions or switches slowly, this is generally caused by poor lubrication, a stuck or damaged spring, or oil or debris blocking the moving parts. In such cases, first check if the oil mist lubricator is functioning normally and if the lubricant viscosity is appropriate. If necessary, replace the lubricant, clean the moving parts of the wafer-type electric butterfly valve, or replace the spring and the valve itself.

(2) After prolonged use, the wafer-type electric butterfly valve may experience wear of the valve core seal ring, damage to the valve stem and seat, leading to gas leakage inside the valve, slow valve action, or inability to reverse direction normally. In such cases, the seal ring, valve stem, and seat should be replaced, or the wafer-type electric butterfly valve should be replaced with a new one.

(3) If the inlet and exhaust ports of the electromagnetic pilot valve are blocked by oil sludge or other debris, resulting in poor sealing, the moving iron core is stuck, or there is an electrical circuit fault, these issues can all prevent the wafer-type electric butterfly valve from switching directions normally. For the first three scenarios, clean the oil sludge and debris from the pilot valve and moving iron core. Electrical circuit faults are generally divided into two categories: control circuit faults and electromagnetic coil faults.

Before inspecting circuit faults, first manually rotate the butterfly valve's manual knob several times to verify if the butterfly valve can switch directions normally under rated air pressure. If it can switch normally, the issue lies with the circuit. During inspection, use an instrument to measure the electromagnetic coil's voltage to confirm if it reaches the rated voltage. If the voltage is too low, further inspect the power supply in the control circuit and the associated limit switch circuit.

If the wafer-type electric butterfly valve cannot switch directions normally at the rated voltage, check whether the electromagnetic coil terminals (plugs) are loose or have poor contact. To do this, unplug the connector and measure the coil resistance. If the resistance is too high or too low, it indicates that the electromagnetic coil is damaged and should be replaced.
